Abstract
Between 1067 and 1415, Wales was transformed from a mosaic of independent kingdoms into occupied territories subject to the English crown. This was not the result of any single invasion, but was achieved against determined resistance through sporadic expansion and factional interplay. The fact that such small and thinly populated kingdoms were able to resist invaders with superior numbers and resources for so long is in itself a remarkable feat.
