Abstract

An intercept method to determine critical hyper-planes of practical dynamic security region (PDSR) of power system is developed by use of knowledge of geometry. According to the intercepts where the critical line intersects the decisive variables’ maximum and minimum values in the two-dimension space of PDSR, the proportional relationships among all of critical hyper-planes’ coefficients are derived. The critical hyper-planes can be determined based on these proportional relationships and a critical operating point obtained by numerical simulation. Studies on New England system indicate that the proposed method is effective and fast. Moreover, the association function of the method is analyzed, by which the critical hyper-planes of PDSR corresponding to one fault can be calculated according to those of PDSR corresponding to another known fault.
