Abstract

Time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy has been used to study recombination in amorphous phosphorus. Excitation with 30 ps pulses at 532 nm confirms our earlier observation that the luminescence band which dominates in the first few hundred nanoseconds following excitation shifts down in energy 180 meV by 200 ns, and that the band is not a superposition of different bands. The decay of luminescence excited by pulses of ~5 ps duration is shown to be consistent with a radiative tunnelling model in the time range 100–700 ps.
