Abstract

This work was commissioned by Thomson Marconi Sonar (to the University of Oxford) as a continuation of my MSc project on submarine signal processing. The challenge was to identify whether some well established optics methods for sharpening telescope images could work for acoustic signals also. We found similarities and differences and concluded that there is scope to further explore the transfer of methods from optics to acoustics

Item Type: Monograph (Project Report)
Status: Published
Schools: Mathematics
Additional Information: Report delivered to Thales Underwater Systems after a three-month research project commissioned to the Oxford Centre for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (66 pages). The work involved examining established methods for sharpening images in optics and whether such methods could be useful in acoustical signal processing
