Abstract
This chapter traces the genesis of the current sociolinguistic and sociopsychological situation of the Welsh language in Wales, starting with the effects of the homogenising nation state (based on Romantic Nationalist philosophy), and leading on to an analysis of the latest state of play in language planning and policy for the Welsh language.
