Abstract

This paper examines case studies of engagement between academia and practitioners on sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) and sustainable operations, submitted for the UK Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014. The REF assesses UK Higher Education Institutes (HEI) on the basis of their research outputs, awarding funding according to the quality of output. The 2014 round included the practical impact resulting from research for the first time. Across all HEI disciplines, 1693 pieces of research concerning sustainability were submitted as impact case studies, some of which cover SSCM issues. Analysis of these is conducted, leading to recommendations for future research.
