Abstract

The essay attempts to delineate the theoretical and political significance of an ‘ontology of crisis’ derived from Lacan’s discourse theory of the late 1960s. More specifically, it argues that Lacan’s discourses of the University and of the Capitalist successfully convey the critical relevance of a negative ontology that, from today’s perspective, can be seen to shed light on the crisis of contemporary capitalism.
