Abstract

Picosecond-time-scale time-resolved infrared spectroscopic studies on a range of mononuclear and dinuclear complexes containing {Re(CO)3Cl}, {Ru(bipy)(CN)4}2-, and {Ru(bpyam)2}2+ units [bipy = bypyridine; bpyam = 2,2‘-bipyridine-4,4‘-(CONEt2)2] connected to one or both of the binding sites of 2,2‘-bipyrimidine have provided information on the electronic structure and dynamics of triplet metal-to-ligand charge-transfer (MLCT) excited states of dinuclear complexes in the {Re(CO)3Cl} and {Ru(bipy)(CN)4}2- complexes (see figure) and fast interconversion between different MLCT states in the {Ru(bpyam)2}2+ complexes.
