The survival of substructure in clumpy clusters

Goodwin, Simon and Whitworth, Anthony Peter 2003. The survival of substructure in clumpy clusters. Presented at: 25th Meeting of the International Astronomical Union, Sydney, Australia, 18th July 2003.

Initially fractal star clusters undergo a dramatic phase of dynamical evolution. Significant amount of substructure can remain in the clusters especially if the initial velocity field is correlated with the density structures. As observations show that many star clusters are born clumpy simulations with smooth initial conditions may be missing an important phase of cluster evolution
