Abstract

The conventional optics of self-assembled quantum dots (QDs) deals with the pump and signal light associated with bulk photon modes. However, a long-distance coupling of QDs also occurs by means of propagating interface photons guided by a host quantum well (QW). The interface light is localized in the z-direction (QW growth direction) and invisible at macroscopic distances from the QD plane. However, the interface photons contribute to the total optics of self-organized QDs in a “hidden” way. The main aims of our report are (i) to develop theoretically the interface, quasi-two-dimensional (quasi-2D) optics of self-assembled QDs and (ii) to describe possible experimental evidences of the interface-photon-mediated coupling between self-assembled InAs/GaAs QDs.
