Abstract

Information transparency and collaboration are well researched as key components in the dampening of amplification effects. However, this paper presents case-study-based evidence, revealing that significant amplification effects can still exist within a sophisticated value chain with high levels of information transparency and collaborative practices. The paper proposes that information sharing alone is insufficient and presents a model of other vital key socio-technical factors. The paper draws conclusions on the need for an inter-disciplinary approach, combining the technical and relational aspects from the respective fields of system dynamics and collaboration in order to deliver superior order replenishment performance.
