Abstract

The extent and potential significance of telomere erosion, as a function of age in human tissues, is becoming increasingly apparent. In this, the second yearly review on telomeres and ageing, I review a small selection of papers published between July 2006 and June 2007. This includes experimental evidence from mouse models concerning the mechanism by which telomere dysfunction could compromise tissue homeostasis, more evidence for telomere loss as a function of age, associations of telomere length with age-related disease and some new information concerning the inheritance of telomere length.
